Research interest:
Life cycle of tropical upper-tropospheric clouds

Current study:
Physical and radiative characteristics estimation using geostational meteorological satellite measurements combined with spaceborne cloud radar measurements

Geostational satellite has advantages over orbital satellite:
+ has wider field of view than orbital satellite
+ can make continuous observation of specified area
-> makes possible to track the entire life cycle of long-lived tropical cirrus

However, geostational satellite can NOT observe the internal structure of clouds
-> validation using cloud radar which can probe the internal structure

By combining with cloud radar measurements, we can estimate the physical and radiative parameters (cloud-top height, optical depth, ice effective radius, etc.) from only geostational satellite measurements. We are currently undertaking an analysis using cloud radar measurements from the CloudSat satellite.
